The landscape

Deserts are often barren, but mostly rocky landscapes. Only one third of all the desert land in the world consists of sand dunes. For that reason Burgers' Desert is also primarily a rock desert. The rocks are made of concrete, but the artistic finishing is so detailed that they can hardly be distinguished from natural material. For instance, a landscape of granite rocks, like they can be found in the North American desert, has been imitated. Furthermore there are various sand-rock formations and a lava rock complex. At the base of several rocks inclines are found that have been built up from the matching erosion debris. Elsewhere you see the dried river beds that sometimes occur suddenly after severe rain showers. A few small streams and an oasis show that a desert also has moist living areas (biotopes). Rock plateaus and canyons, sandbanks and plains show an unexpected change in this ecosystem.
