The animals

In the open mud plains live many crabs, snails and cartilaginous fish. The last are fish that can survive out of the water for long periods of time and which move by 'jumping'. In the creeks are many types of fish: also many young fish that later can continue their life as coral reef inhabitants. A typical inhabitant is the Asian archer fish, which can shoot insects from branches with drops of water and thus captures his food. All these relatively small animals are prey to fish eating birds and reptiles. In Burgers' Mangrove reside mangrove herons, mangrove kingfishers, anhingas, water rails and turtles.
