The animals
The various types of animals have been combined with their living environment as much as possible, however, the possibilities with predators are, of course, limited. Panthers, tigers and jackals therefore all have their own accommodations, but the Malay Sun bears and binturongs share their living spaces. Plant eaters are easier to keep in the same area. Three types of deer (brow- antlered deer, Thai hog deer and muntjac) and two types of monkeys (pigtail macaque and siamang) are housed together. In addition dusky leaf monkeys and golden-cheeked crested gibbons have their own accommodations after all, because they are much more vulnerable.
Reptiles are also present with two giant representatives. The water monitors become enormous animals that can grow up to over 2 metres in length. These lizards hunt, but also clean up cadavers. Because they like to eat almost any animal they cannot be kept together with other species of animals. This is also true for the reticulated python. These giant snakes can even be dangerous to humans. Reptiles depend on their surroundings for their body heat and therefore must be kept in a heated environment all year round. The visitor can meet these inhabitants of the Rimba in an underground cave, which has been artfully hidden underneath a part of the tiger accommodations. Behind the scenes there is ample breeding space and the indoor accommodations are kept at the right temperature using the energy collected in summer and stored in the ground water, which is then utilized in winter.
