The landscape
Burgers' Rimba officially opened in the spring of 2008. After a series of covered eco-displays the Rimba (Malaysian for 'forest' or 'jungle') was created to show a selection of the larger animals from the tropical rain forest of South-East Asia. Due to their size and their need for space they cannot be shown in the Bush. The Rimba is not covered, and plant and animal are therefore exposed to the climate in the Netherlands. The animals that are sensitive to the cold must therefore be kept inside a part of the winter season. Their indoor accommodations can be visited on those days. The Rimba covers about 2 hectare and the area has been created with a layout that has clear boundaries: The starting- and endpoints of the route are close together and link up with the main road through the park.
