Collaboration

Burgers' Zoo collaborates with numerous organisations both nationally and internationally.

These are not only organisations in the area of conservation in general, but also of zoos in particular. In addition Burgers' Zoo also takes part in organisations dealing with botanical gardens and tourist recreation areas.

The Dutch Organisation of Zoos (NVD) is an organisation within which the fifteen Dutch zoos collaborate in numerous areas: http://www.nvddierentuinen.nl/.

The common conservation fund of the NVD is called the NVD Natuurbeschermingsfonds (NNBF) (NVD Nature Conservation Fund):  http://www.nvdnatuurbeschermingsfonds.nl/.

All members of the NVD are also automatically a member of the IUCN, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and of the CBSG, the Captive Breeding Specialist Group, a group of people, who determine how animals can best be protected from extinction. The members of the NVD also closely collaborate with the World Wildlife Fund: www.iucn.nl; http://www.cbsg.org/, http://www.wwf.nl/.

EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria) is the European organisation of zoos that, amongst others, coordinates the European breeding programs: http://www.eaza.net/.

The World Association of Zoos and Aquaria (WAZA) is the worldwide organisation of 300 leading zoos of all continents: http://www.waza.org/.

The European Union of Aquarium Curators (EUAC) is an organisation of biologists and scientist from over 125 European aquariums: http://www.euac.org/.

The Stichting National Plantencollectie (SNP) (Foundation of National Plant Collection) coordinates the plant collections in the various Dutch botanical gardens and zoos. Burgers' Zoo has a famous collection of mangrove plants, ficus plants and ginger-like plants. http://www.nationale-plantencollectie.nl/

The Nederlandse Vereniging van Botanische Tuinen (NVBT) (Dutch Organisation of Botanical Gardens) coordinates the exchange of knowledge between botanical gardens: NVBT.
The International Tropical Conservation Foundation (ITCF) protects areas of nature in Belize: http://www.shipstern.org/.

Annually the Stichting Future for Nature (Foundation Future For Nature) awards funds to people for their outstanding efforts with respect to international nature conservation projects: http://www.futurefornature.net/.

The Stichting Lucie Burgers (named after the daughter of the founder of the zoo) finances scientific behavioural research in animals at zoos and in the wild: Stichting Lucie Burgers.

The Club van Elf (Club of Eleven) is a collaboration of large recreational companies in The Netherlands: http://www.clubvanelf.nl/.

The Federatie voor Internationale Natuurbescherming (FIN) (Federation for International Nature Conservation) joins together about a dozen nature conservation organisations and looks after their interests with respect to acquiring funds, publicity and expertise: www.nfin.nl.

IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) is a worldwide collaboration of large recreational companies: www.iapa.org.
